Apple Studios is ready to release the theatrical release of its latest rom-com drama, Fly Me to the Moon, which will be released on July 12, 2024, in the United States[1]. After facing big failures like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, Apple Studios is hoping that this time their film will be successful. Still, this production expectation does not seem to be coming true anywhere. And if the numbers predicted by box office experts are anything to go by, it’s even more disappointing for the production, which has spent a good amount of money in the hope of the success of this film.

The buzz surrounding Fly Me to the Moon, starring Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, and Jim Rash, is done and dusted. Despite the presence of Scarlett Johansson, the audience is not at all eager about this film, the result of which is also clear at the box office. Due to the poor buzz, box office critics are expecting Fly Me to the Moon to gross only $12–15 million on its opening weekend in North America, which is undoubtedly a bad start for a medium-budget film. Not only this, the film will clash with many big films, and it will be difficult to survive in them.

Apart from the debut, the signal is also not good from a long-term point of view, which is clearly unacceptable for a $100 million budget film before marketing costs. Despite the big names, the buzz is not in favor of the film, and it looks like the reviews are not going to help either, which is ensuring that perhaps this film will not be able to stay at the ticket window for weeks because, apart from these disadvantages, it will run at the box office with many big films, including Despicable Me 4, Twisters, Inside Out 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Talking about numbers, Fly Me to the Moon will end its box office run with $40 million domestically and $80 million globally.

Against the production budget of $100 million, the projected numbers indicate a disappointment for Apple Studios, and also that the film may not be able to achieve production costs, let alone the break-even mark. After Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, it’s going to be another theatrical disappointment for Apple Studios, and perhaps the production will have to wait even longer to achieve success in the theatrical market. And it is disappointing for commission-based distributors, who were expecting earnings from these films. Read Also: Is Quiet Place Day One Hit or Flop? How is Survival Thriller Doing at Box Office?
